Gas Safe Register representatives, manufacturers, retailers, and the general public have been meeting every year since then to encourage people to properly care for their gas appliances and improve their gas safety.

In the last year, there have been over 700,000. Gas leaks, fires and explosions as well as carbon monoxide poisoning can all be caused by poorly fitting gas appliances. They should be checked annually. Now is the perfect time to include the gas safety check in your routine, as the heating season begins in September.
Gas Safety: Steps to Take

You can request a copy the gas safety record from your landlord if you are a tenant. This is a certificate that ensures the gas fitting meets national safety standards. A gas safety record is required by law for tenants.
- Check if your engineer is Gas Safe registered. Only Gas Safe registered engineers are allowed to legally fix, install, or service gas appliances. You can find a Gas Safe registered engineer at GasSafeRegister.co.uk (the UK's official gas safety body) by postcode, by company name, by service and areas of work.
- Gas Safe ID Card for your engineer. All details are on the back of your card. This includes any type of gas work that a certified engineer can do. Every ID card contains the unique license number of its holder. This can be used to provide information about the holder's qualifications.
